Excitement At The Beach

Tonight we had the privilege of seeing this fine fire department at work!

After an early evening thunder storm that brought lots of rain & two huge bolts of thunder, we heard the sirens of fire trucks coming down "our" street, here at the beach.  We looked out and saw that it had stopped just a few doors down & that another fire truck had come in from the other end.  So like any good citizen, we walked down to see what was happening.  We were very careful to stay way back so we wouldn't interfere with their work. (And yes, we did get to see them go up in their new ladder truck....)

Apparently one of the lightning bolts had struck somewhere in the top level of a beautiful condo 5 buildings down from us, & there was smoke coming out of the attic vents.  A young couple from Atlanta were staying there with their 4 year old & 21 month old little girls.  The girls had just been bathed & were in their "jammies" watching a movie on the DVD, the mom had had her shower, and the smoke alarm went off.  They were staying in a condo owned by his parents who are coming down this week along with his brother & family for a total of 10.  They were thankful for the quick response of the fire department!  No flames were evident, though there was a good bit of smoke.

The experience gave the girls an opportunity to see what their other grandfather has done for his whole career before retiring  couple of years ago.

It sure was a reminder to be thankful for all those who serve in this way, wherever they may be.
