Emergency!

This is a big deviation from my typical blog, but I feel it is so important.
What could be more of an emergency than what has happened in Haiti?!  Every "mama's heart" just grieves at what we see!  The pictures are heart-rending & show the great need there, beyond what any of us can imagine.  It might be easy to say, "I can't do anything" or "I can't afford to send anything."  But what about sacrificing a few visits to Star Bucks, or a fast food drive through, or a meal out, or a movie rental, or... you fill in where your "extra" dollars go.
But we also need to be careful about where we send those contributions: unfortunately there are already scams on FB & other sites, & even many of the reputable organizations use too much of their budget for "administrative costs".  Here are a couple of suggestions of organizations who will utilize the most toward the greatest needs & also are already "boots on the ground."
And in case you are wondering: Corey's group will not be going since they are still training the new guys, but 2 other groups from his area will be going.  He would like to have been in on it, but knew that right now his group was not prepared.

The first Samaritan’s Purse cargo plane landed in Haiti Wednesday with emergency relief supplies for victims.  They deployed emergency teams just hours after the earthquake hit. They are already in place and are already working to meet the survival needs of the Haitians. Our church has worked closely with Samaritan’s Purse and has helped deliver Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes to Amigo Fiel in Mexico. This organization is the real deal. They know what they’re doing and they do it well. Here is a link to Samaritan Purse’s statement of financial accountability.

The Navigators: Many organizations will raise money for Haiti -- some will be legitimate and some not. Evangelical Council for Fianancial Accountablity (ECFA) has prepared a special link on their home page (www.ECFA.org) to direct potential donors to a list of ECFA member organizations providing humanitarian relief an...See More

Haiti is hard to get off one's mind. Thanks for posting these organizations. It is sad that some take advantage of people and their generosity, but thrilling to see so many good organizations going forth and helping.

Wondering how your Mother's heart would be if Corey did go. I'm sure you are so proud of all he does and would be the same now....or is there a part that is always on pins and needles and trying not to worry?
Trying to pray more and worry less for Brian's sister. :)
Thanks for posting this!

There is not a part that is on pins & needles no matter where he goes. I don't say this smugly. After going through some prodigal years w/him, I know that wherever he is, God is protecting him & since Corey is now walking w/God & trusts Him, I am at peace wherever He takes him. That truly is the peace that passes all human understanding.

i am so glad that you posted this about SP and taking a diversion--it underscorces how we need to be in continual prayer for the Haitians--God is sure there and wanting to draw many to himself. I had wondered about Corey and he would be great had he gone but he will have his group ready for the next crisis that comes up. I can testify to the power of the Lord changing you as you went through that prodigal time. so thankful our boy came Home!

Thanks for posting this! Another real deal organization helping in Haiti is New Directions (www.newdirections.org.) I've known the founders and pres since grammar school, and God has done amazing work through them. Oh, and there's also Hearts and Hands for Haiti. We feel like the kids we sponsor in Haiti through this org is our very own child.

Thank you for the encouragement to pray and give!

Update: one of NDI's children's home directors in Haiti was killed in the earthquake....

This is just so tragic.
